Anthony Babington (1920–2004)

Published in 1980, this was the book that first revealed to the public the extent of executions during WW1. Babington was only allowed access to court martial records on the basis that none of those executed were identified. The title comes from the general assertion that many of the executions were carried out pour encourager les autres
