I enjoyed the story. It wrapped up the main plot nicely while leaving some deeper plot points open for prequels/sequels. It can be read as a stand alone without being disappointing. There are some religious overtones, but they are not preachy, more inline with the maturing of the FMC.

This reversal of the original twelve dancing princesses tale was skillfully done, and I really appreciated the Russian influence, from the names to a familiar Russian fairytale character to the house standing on chicken legs. It meshed beautifully with the story.
I liked how the author showed Katrine's struggle to make sense of her situation and her understandable reactions and responses. I found myself snickering at how adorably awkward the main couple were around each other. It's hard to create depth and growth in a relationship in a short amount of pages, but I love how it was done here. And the brothers, although they didn't get much screentime, won me over immediately. Now, if only someone would write a series about them...

I received a complimentary copy of this book for review purposes. A positive review was not required.

Hilarious Puss-in-Boots retelling

The author did a fabulous job of not only making the Puss-in-Boots character likable on his own but also adding delightful interactions between the two main characters. I think Push might be my favorite.

Water Princess, Fire Prince is a wonderful and refreshing fantasy read, and I really enjoyed it. It is almost like a modern version of Narnia, but still quite original and with elements all its own. The characters are endearing, the writing is beautiful, and the story is engaging, along with great themes and worldbuilding.

My favorite aspect of this book is the characters, and Clara and Andrew are both so well-developed, interesting, and lovable characters who quickly found their way into my heart. I also enjoyed several of the supporting characters. And I loved the exploration of relationships in this book, especially the subtle and sweet romance the story centers around. I also really loved seeing the protagonists grow and change inwardly along their journey.

Another thing I really appreciated is how the author skillfully balanced the alternating points of view of the two main characters. Clara and Andrew each had a distinct and characteristic voice that illuminated their personalities, feelings, and so much more. It was vivid enough that I could almost hear the characters speaking the narration.

I really appreciated how through all of the events in the book, the characters were always directed back to their Christian beliefs, trusting in God even when it was difficult. There were many great themes included in this story.

I was compelled to keep reading to find out what happened with the characters and story, and I couldn't put this book down. There were many moments that kept me riveted on the edge of my seat, especially near the final showdown!

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy and fairytale books with great story and characters. I will definitely be reading the forthcoming sequel to Water Princess, Fire Prince, and I very much look forward to the continuation of this series!
