In the first book of the Brides of the Kindred series, Olivia Waterhouse is drafted to become the human mate of a Kindred warrior. A few years ago, an evil alien race called the Scourge attacked Earth and would’ve decimated the planet if not for a second alien race, the Kindred. In exchange for their help, the Kindred demanded the planet’s eligible single women. 95% of their race is male and they need women to procreate with. The Earth governments agreed and set up a worldwide draft of all eligible women. The thing is, most of the warriors only want women they can psychically bond with so the odds of being chosen are slim.
After six months of torture, Kindred warrior Baird escaped his captives with one thought in mind: find his mate. They’ve been sharing dreams and her presence in his mind kept him alive and sane through his imprisonment. Once Baird finally claims her according to the law set up between the Kindred and Earth, nothing goes right. Though she desires him, she’s also terrified of him and makes his courtship of her very difficult.
Baird is awesome! He’s patient, gorgeous, giving, and stubborn. Even though he understands why Olivia is scared and why she misses her old life, he thinks she’ll grow to love him because they’re destined for each other.
I couldn’t connect with Olivia. Yes, she loves and misses her sister Sophia and her best friend Kat, but she never really gave Baird a chance. For over ¾ of the book, she complains and insults him. She doesn’t try to make their relationship work. When they’re having sex, she’s all for him and wants him, but she changes her mind afterward and blames him for her actions. His pain over her continuous rejections is so strong and palpable that I cried a little for him. Even after she disobeyed a safety precaution and got herself in serious trouble, she’s still defiant and seemingly ungrateful that he saved her.
Sex scenes and arguments took up most of the book, but the action at the end picked up the pace. The scenes with Baird’s brother, Sylvan, were great.
The book could use an edit to fix missing punctuation marks, extra punctuation marks, a few misspellings, and the wrong form of words. Though I like the hero, the world building, and the overall plot, I would’ve enjoyed the book more if the heroine would’ve been a stronger woman.

When Detectives Andi Sugarbaker and Viktor Saltanov go undercover in an Age Play (Daddy Dom/babygirl sub) kink club, they’re in for the ride of their lives. Berkeley, the owner of the club, is producing and selling a dangerous street drug called ‘Please.’ The drug makes women so desperate for physical stimulation that their heart stops beating if they don’t have very intense sex or a black-and-blue beating. It’s Andi and Salt’s job to stop him, but they never expected their platonic partnership to develop into something more.
Andi is a brass, loudmouth woman and considers herself vanilla. Salt is quiet, protective, and a force to reckon with if anyone tries to harm Andi. They both have father issues, especially Andi, and she’s having a very hard time adjusting to the role of a submissive, so much so she nearly blows the investigation. After three years of being partners, I just couldn’t understand her inability and downright unwillingness to trust Salt as her friend and lover. She often acted out and misbehaved when she needed to play the innocent, playful kid/teenager to gain Berkeley’s trust. Salt conformed to the daddy role just fine, but Andi just couldn’t play along.
For an erotic romance novel, I found it odd Salt and Andi had sex (penetration) only once, but they did fool around a lot.
The book could use a light edit to fix missing quotation marks at the beginning and ending of a few sentences. It wasn’t much, but enough to distract me.
There are a few unanswered questions. Who’s the mole in the police department? Why did Andi’s father leave when she was a child?
The story is written in Andi’s first POV with a lot of internal dialogue.
Salt was the best part of the book. Who wouldn’t love a stoic, gorgeous Russian man with a sexy accent and lots of protective, romantic, authoritative instincts? YUM! Andi didn’t realize how lucky she was to have a man like him in her life until they joined The Institute. It’s the best thing that ever could’ve happened to them.
Overall, I enjoyed the story very much and would recommend it.

This novella is part of the Brides of the Kindred series, book 14.5, and is a follow-up to the previous book that focuses on another couple. The novella can be read as a standalone.
In this story, space pilot Solar is drugged and kidnapped, and he finds himself up for sale as a sex slave at a flesh bazaar. He’s a strong, sexy Havoc male and he’s determined to escape no matter what. Havocs are a male-centric alien race and they don’t bond with females, but they’re also cousins to the Kindred who do bond with females.
Kaylee and her friend Lyra are at the bazaar to buy Kaylee a slave to boost her social status in the female-centric world in which they live. Even though Kaylee doesn’t want a slave, Lyra convinces her to buy him and promises to teach her how to train him. Though Solar is angry over the situation, he’s drawn to Kaylee in ways he can’t explain. She feels the same toward him but their different cultures threaten to tear their tentative trust apart.
This is a really good story. Kaylee is a kindhearted but misguided young woman. Solar is patient, stubborn, and open for change, but on his terms. Their connection is fast, strong, and believable. Both characters are well developed, and I enjoyed watching them learn the error of their ways.
The story could use an edit. For example, sentences shouldn’t end with commas and single quotation marks aren’t used for dialogue. If not for the editing issues, I’d give this story 5 stars since I liked it a lot.

I read this series several years ago, and at that time I would have given it 4 stars. Now it's only 3 stars, maybe 2.5 stars. I now see the controlling aspects as abusive.
