This book is supposed to show you how to recreate iconic dresses such as Marilyn's pleated white dress from the Seven Year Itch and Audrey's Breakfast at Tiffanys black dress. For each icon (Bette Davis, Rita Hayworth, Marilyn Monroe, Jacquie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy, Diana Ross, Farrah Fawcett, Stevie Nicks, Madonna) there is a dress and a variation on the dress. Patterns are on patterns sheets in an envelope at the front of the book.
The firt half of the book has general sewing instructions on how to trace the patterns, select, prepare and cut out the fabric, etc. Step by step instructions are included for each dress, with diagrams.
There are no photos of the finished garments, just fashion illustrations and fashion flats, so it's difficult to tell what they will actually look like on someone. They are pretty basic versions of the iconic dresses. Having read about the extremely convoluted construction of Marilyn's white pleated dress, the one in this book is basically a similar shaped white halter dress, and I suspect the others are similarly dumbed down.… (más)
