Advertising?, publicity piece? Pan Am's first plane: 3 engined Fokker F-7, first route: 90 mile Key West to Havana. "Off to War" In 1939, Pan Am Clippers were crowded with diplomats, refugees and thousands of pounds of priority mail. When U.S. entered the war, only 11 great trans-oceanic Clippers, nine Boeing 314's and two Martin 130's were available... Altogether Pan Am at this time 148 planes of varying size, but only 11 trans-oceanic.
