Mycroft Holmes is a match in intellect for his brother. This is the story of how Mycroft became the power he was. He follows the thinnest of trails to find his love and the truth to the man behind the money. Good plot, interesting twist on the brothers relationship.
I was unaware of Abdul-Jabbar the author before reading this essay. This a very thoughtful essay. The fact that his father was a cop and how this shaped his world view was very interesting. The fact that he realized that he had a platform because of his athletic abilities to speak out was very poignant. I am interested to read his other books.
I don't even like sports, really, but this book was an inspiration. I have a ton of respect for this human.

I am giving 5 stars because it really blew my expectations away. A friend gifted this book to me. There is no way based on my profile and proclaimed “interests” that an Amazon algorithm would have thought this was a good choice for me. In fact, I didn’t even know who coach Wooden was and I have little interest in sports.
Despite my lack of interest, I found this book intimate, moving, humbling and edifying at the same time. You see the world through the goggles of two athlete-celebrities and see what moves them at their core: meaningful relationships, faith, growth.… (más)
