He follows his nose to discover a Cinco de Mayo festival going on! As he tries to chase down all the wonderful food smells and most especially the glorious pinata, he is unaware that he is being stalked by a cat who wants to make a treat of him! There aren't many interesting fiction options out there for Cinco de Mayo when it comes to picture books, so this is a fine addition to any personal, public, or school library in that respect. Fiesta highlights are mentioned and a few Spanish words are intermingled in the text. The illustrations are really quite lovely, almost realistic looking and full of little interesting details to notice. My biggest quibble, if you can even call it that, is that this book is a little wordy. I think it would work well for elementary school-age children but not for preschoolers (unless they happen to have a particularly long attention span). This was a cute story along with being somewhat informative on how people celebrate Cinco de Mayo. One morning a mouse wakes up to the smell of yummy food. He searches around his house trying to find where it is coming from but it is actually coming from a party. He has to escape a cat, and is hanging on to a pinata. The kids hit open the pinata and steal all the candy and the mouse doesn't get any. However, at the end, the mouse is able to finish his celebration in his tiny hole at home. This book is a bout a little mouse who is going to celebrate Cinco De mayo. That means the fifth of May. Every Cinco de Mayo, the spicy smells tickle his nose with beany, cheesy and ricey smells. This is a big holiday for the Spanish culture and there is a lot of preparation that happens on this day as well. People eating, dancing, drinking, strolling, playing, singing all happen. Pinata's are filled with candy, and the children are allowed to hit it with a stick and see how much candy they can collect. It was a very cute book because as small as the mouse is, he still made the best of his Cinco de Mayo and enjoyed himself. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
