Reviewed by Kira M for TeensReadToo.com It's 1940, and the British are preparing for a Nazi invasion of England. As a resident of Greybeard Island, the smallest island of the British Channel Islands, Nick must help to save his homeland. The Nazis aren't Nick's only enemies, though. When Nick's sister, Kate, is kidnapped by his arch-rival, Captain Blood, and taken back to Port Royal, Jamaica, in the year 1781, Nick must use his time machine to go back in time to save her. While in Jamaica, however, Nick discovers Captain Blood's plot to attack a French fleet on its way to Yorktown to prevent the retreat of General Cornwallis. The interruption of this battle could change the outcome of the American Revolution. Can Nick stop these time pirates from changing history and save his sister at the same time? THE TIME PIRATE is a fast-paced, action-packed time-travel adventure. The story is intense and unique. The mixture of history and science fiction is well-crafted. The characters are well-developed and likable. Readers who like science fiction, historical fiction, and adventure will truly enjoy reading this book. The Time Pirate is the follow up to Nick of Time, which we reviewed here on the blog recently. Nick of Time was great and The Time Pirate is even better. Ted Bell never loses his pacing, keeping the story constantly moving along. We get to meet even more wonderful characters (I never knew Martha Washington could be so charming) and venture over to America in this tale. Nick takes flight in this book; don’t worry he still sails on ships as well. He continues to fight Billy Blood in the battle of good versus evil and Gunner stays at his side throughout most of it. I liked this book better than the first as it seemed to be more exciting now that we have all of the plot points down with how the time machine works, who’s who, and what’s what. History lovers and those looking for an adventure will be sure to find what they are seeking within this series of books that just keep getting better. With all the time in the world at Nick McIver’s hands, Bell has endless opportunities to continue on with this series. He would never run out of events or historical people for us to meet. Thus far, he has chosen the events wisely and the people that took part in these events are the icing on the cake. Each character, no matter how short lived in the story, is complete and realistic. This is a great adventure book for kids and their parents who are not too old to still enjoy a rollicking yarn filled with pirates, George Washington and the American revolution, Sopwith Camels, and spying against the Nazis in World War II. How exactly, I'm sure you are asking, can you fit all that into one book. Well it helps if you have a working model of Leonardo da Vinci's, Tempus Machina, a time machine. Nick McIver, our twelve year old hero, is game to try anything. He probably gets this trait from his dad, who was a heroic flying ace in the RAF during the First World War. Along with his sister Kate, his friend Gunner, who had served in the Navy and some other help along the way, Nick leads us from one hair breath escape to another in a continuous romp that will leave you asking for more. This is book two of Nick McIver's adventures in time. Hopefully not the last. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

HTML: A thrilling sequel to the Ted Bell's New York Times bestseller Nick of Time, in which the young time traveler Nick McIver must prove his courage once more, on two fronts: in World War Two–era England, where Nazis have invaded his homeland, and in America during the Revolution, where Nick stands shoulder to shoulder with General George Washington No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

In the second book, Nazi soldiers have begun to occupy the nearby island of Guernsey. When Nick discovers a dusty old Sopwith Camel (WWI airplane) in an old barn he enlists his friend Gunner to restore it to working condition. The bi-plane had been flown by his father in the First World War and his father teaches him how to fly it. So far the story remains fun and "believable," but when Nick conducts a solo midnight raid on the Nazi base with spectacular success it begins to strain the limits of credibility. Then his sister Katie is kidnapped by the pirate Billy Blood and Nick discovers a plot which imperils George Washington's defeat of Cornwallis at Yorktown (which would affect the Americans latter ability to assist the British in WWII). The idea of a 12 year-old boy handily outsmarting pirates and assisting the Marquis de Lafayette to save America went too far overboard. Nick talks and thinks like someone at least twice his age and maturity and any magic the story started with evaporated. Yes, I'm an adult but not even kids would swallow it. ( )
