I definitely enjoyed this and laughed out loud multiple times, but I have two complaints that dropped my review down a star: This was a captivating book. I have pretty stringent standards for historical romance and I felt that this book really brought to life the late Victorian period in a subtle but real way. I loved both the hero and the heroine. They were both believable and well written. I particularly enjoyed the contrast between the hero's foolish facade and the bleak and dark man who appeared at night the times that he was drunk and let his real self show. The emotions and relationship between them felt very real and sometimes I choked up a bit. The writing was wonderful and the plot was very tight and clear. On now to read the rest of her books. I wanted to shake the hero a time or two for behaving foolishly (not as part of his disguise, just genuinely in his life choices, =D), but overall I was entertained. This couple is well suited to each other, and they were written in a relatable way. I liked each book in this trilogy, and I look forward to reading others by this author. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Coming back to note a possible reference to Judith Ivory’s The Proposition in the is book:
“In the morning everyone drove over to Woodley Manor for a look at the disgusting mountain of dead rats. The rat catcher, with his exhausted rat dogs, a triumphant ferret, and an incomprehensible accent, proudly twirled his dark, luxuriant mustache as he posed for Lord Frederick’s camera, commemorating the occasion.” ( )
