Memoirs of a Jew from Będzin, Poland, who was born to an ultra-Orthodox family in 1926. Describes the German occupation in 1939, soon after which the synagogues and some Jewish houses were burned, and many Jews were killed. Reports on Jewish collaboration with the Nazis, particularly by the head of the ghetto Judenrat, Mojżesz Merin, and the head of the Jewish police, Hirsch Berenblatt. One of Eichenwald's brothers disappeared in 1941, and his parents and one of his sisters were deported and killed in 1942. With the liquidation of the ghetto in 1943, he and six other siblings were deported to Auschwitz. Eichenwald was sent to the Fünfteichen labor camp, where he worked until January 1945, and then on a death march, during which he was liberated. In 1949 he emigrated to Israel; all of his siblings perished in the Holocaust. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
