They've got more on order, so it may take a while. I was surprised to see that this book was originally published in 1955, when the event would still have been part of the collective memory ... ... the copy I received from KC. I am not surprised that most copies are owned by universities.

I expect to finish The Proud Tower by Barbara Tuchman before the end of the month and add it to the nonfiction ... I am no economist, but having just finished The Great Crash, I can highly recommend it, if you want to try glean some understanding of that period in economic history (and reflect on the glaring similarities with our present crisis).
Of course, no book is going to be able to present the facts ... The Blue Fox, The Great Crash of 1929 and Wittgenstein's Nephew all sound like must-reads. Nobel Prize-winning economist Amartya Sen has cited Galbraith as a great influence. Sen's economic theory is interesting, provocative, and spot on in many places. On the other hand, another Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman ... I dropped out of my economics class in college, and there were parts of The Great Crash of 1929 that I had to read carefully, but it is undoubtedly carefully researched, although unafraid to express a point of view. #21: I may put down The Shock Doctrine and read The Great Crash of 1929 and then go back to the other book.
