During the war, Canadian squadrons flew hundreds of operations over the North Atlantic, the English Channel, the North Sea and the Bay of Biscay. Such operations included reconnaissance flights as well as shipping strikes to Norway, the Netherlands and the French coast. The Canadians proved themselves admirably despite heavy losses some of the heaviest of the war. From a force of some 4,000 officers and airmen and 270 aircraft at the beginning of the war, the RCAF had within four months doubled in strength, with 8,287 officers and airmen, and 14 operational squadrons in Canada. In all, 48 RCAF squadrons had served overseas by the end of the war. This comprehensive study covers every success achieved by Canadian squadrons listed in Coastal Command's records for World War II including attacks on U-boats and enemy controlled vessels. Each operation is reported in meticulous detail, from the time of departure, current weather, hours flown and crew involved to a description of the action itself.… (más)
