Or that Freddie Mercury used to leave his look-alike sitting in a pub while he went off having gay sex in lavatories? Or that a family brought their dead granny back from holiday wrapped in a carpet? If so, you are a victim of urban myths. No one knows where they come from but they are an inescapable part of modern life. People like them because they are quirky and, even though most are quite implausible, lots of people are regularly fooled into believing them. Urban myths never happened to the person who tells you the story but always to a mate of his, or a distant relation or to a bloke he met down the boozer. No matter how unreliable the source of the information it never ceases to entertain.
