The worst part about the book is the very poor quality of the reproduction used for the illustrations; many are very dark, and very difficult to read. Additionally, the font size used for the entries is very small and is not a particularly easy font on the eyes. Some of the entries are interesting and very good, while others are very brief and not all that informative. It could have used a number of maps, as well. I don't think I could honestly recommend this book; this, in spite of the fact that Wordsworth does publish a number of other good titles. ( ) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Capturing the drama of the high seas and those who sailed on them, this dictionary is a veritable treasure-chest of fact and fiction. It brings together both the real and imagined lives of brigands, buccaneers and privateers, from marauders off the coast of ancient Greece to the Chinese and Malay pirates of the 1870s. Enlivened by many historical quotations and comprehensive listings of the richest booty ever captured by pirates, the dictionary is also brimming with cross-references and contains a selected bibliography. The dictionary is a unique and authoritative work of reference and a much needed addition to the literature and history of the sea. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
