Summary: This book shows Disney before the mouse. Following Disney's life and struggles, to him creating the mouse that would change our world as we know it, this book illustrates that Disney was more than just an artist. He was a person too.

Personal Reaction: I absolutely loved this book. Walt Disney is an extraordinary person, and I feel students will connect with him. I think students will want to know more about the man behind the mouse.

Classroom extensions: I think it would be great for students to talk about their favorite Disney animations, and what they feel are the lessons behind the stories. I believe students could write a short biography about themselves, and who they want to be. ( )

Summary: The book is over the life of the late and great Walt Disney. This book is great because it is has pictures to correlate with the story that is being told. It is great for younger kids to follow along and learn about the magical guy behind the Disney concept that they all know and love. Walt Disney was born in Chicago. Soon after his brother went to the Navy. Walt volunteered with the American Red Cross during WW I. After the war Walt went on to peruse his dream in California. Before he passed away he was able to see Disneyland come to life. The Book shows dates that creates a timeline when all these historic events took place.

personal: I think it is a great book for the younger kids and new readers. it is easy for them to follow along and comprehend the material that is presented in front of them. The book helps familiarize them with a biography format. Especially since Disney has a huge cultural today.

Classroom:1) children could write about what they had learned about Walt Disney.
2)Each child could write a biography about themselves and draw pictures that go along with biographies.
3). each child could make a biography over their favorite Disney character.

Summary: The life and times of Walt Disney is told through a graphic format sure to grab the young reader’s attention. The book takes you through his thoughts as a young boy through his death at 65yrs old. There are lots of dates throughout, useful if gathering information for a report.

Personal: Who hasn’t grown up with Disney? It would be hard to imagine a time without the bright, colorful, fun animations Disney is known for. This book is full of information about anything you wondered about the man or his creations.

Classroom Extension:

Art: Lower grades could be challenged to come up with their own animated character. Older students could be challenged to create a small cartoon strip.

Art: This book is full of information on how cartoon strips were produced and the different techniques and equipment that were used. This is a great resource if doing a study of those times or medium. ( )

Summary: This novel has the look of a comic book, but tells us the biography of Walt Disney. It tells us about his childhood and the hard times he and his brother Roy had working for their dad. In his youth and teenage years Walt really enjoyed drawing and even went to an art academy. He went on to pursue his dreams along side his brother Roy and made their own animation studio, produced tons of films, and even designed their own theme parks before Walt's death in 1966.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. After reading this story, the students will know how some of their favorite characters such as Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck were created. They can choose their favorite Disney character or movie of all time to write about, and tell why they enjoy that character or movie.

2. The students could do a miniature puppet show where they choose their favorite characters and act out a scene or two from a cartoon or movie created by the Disney brothers.
