Top notch mystery: Mystery fans are in good company with Skinwalkers, set in the Land of Enchantment (New Mexico). I was always a fan of the Inspector Morse stories, and had to add Chee to my favorite sleuth list after reading this book. I'm sure it lacks in pure police procedural technique, but it isn't a training manual. First to last page, it's absorbing and entertaining, which are, for me, criteria to a good mystery. Still trying to listen to it - tape is messed up!!

This is the first mystery where Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee work together. There is also a significant bit of personal side story going on for both Chee and Leephorn. The mystery kept me guessing (even though I had read it previously) although it is foreshadowed if you know what to look for. Nicely done. ( )

Detective in Navaholand. Magere plot. Vooral de locatie geeft het boek iets extra. In hoeverre de Navahocultuur authentiek geschetst wordt of een (geromantiseerde) voorstelling van een blanke auteur is, valt onmogelijk uit te maken. toch heb ik sterk het gevoel dat de cultuur er van buiten opgelegd is, en niet van binnenuit komt, zoals bijvoorbeeld in Ceremonie van Leslie Silko. Maar dit is dan ook geen literatuur.
