There are very many reasons why British summers are either non-existent or, alternatively, held on a Thursday. Many of these reasons are either scientific, dull, or both - but all of them are wrong, especially the scientific ones. The real reason why it rains perpetually from January 1st to December 31st (incl.) is, of course, irritable Chinese Water Dragons. Karen is one such legendary creature. Ancient, noble, near-indestructible and, for a number of wildly improbable reasons, working as an estate-agent, Karen is irritable quite a lot of the time. Hence Wimbledon. She becomes positively incensed, however, when she discovers that her father, the Adjutant General to the Dragon King of the North-West, has been kidnapped by a mob of angry weathermen. An increasingly angry Karen heads out on a quest, or, at least, a hobby, to rescue her father from their evil clutches. And some people start building Arks... Well, apparently I read this in February 2009. I just reread it and enjoyed it very much as I always enjoy Tom Holt's novels. ( )

Fun read. But just 'ends'. ( )

Dragons control the weather and can turn into humans, or fish. What happens when a dragon abandons her duties to moon over a male human whose father is secretly plotting against dragons. Funny. ( )

Much better than the last one I read. Usual quality of very funny metaphors, and a good story line. ( )
  Superenigmatix | Jan 16, 2016 |
Another typical Tom Holt fantasy featuring shape-changing dragons that make it rain, mad weathermen and even madder wicked billionaires. A nice enough read, but nothing special - I still think Barking the best Holt book. ( )
