In 1834 Daniel Parker led a Baptist congregation from Illinois to become the first organized Baptist church in Texas. Controversy surrounded his support of doctrinal purity among Baptists as well as his belief in Two Seedism, a hyper-Calvinistic homespun theology. His stand on the autonomy of the local church resulted in division among his fellow denominationalism. This book paints a lively portrait of frontier religion, in addition to state development, as Parker played political rolled in both lllinoise and Texas.
