Paul veers from irrational anger to tenderness when he's with Johanna, frequently bruising her arm and at one point beating her. Johanna's love for Paul keeps her from leaving the relationship but perspectives from more emotionally experienced girls at school help her see that Paul is not going to change. Clunky dialog; story calculatingly written to cover the teen developmental assets the author is an expert on; and characters not deeply drawn. ( )

This is a great book for teens especially and those who suffered from an abusive relationship ( )

I had to read this book for a class. I absolutely loved this book. I would highly recommend this book.

Johanna is a shy girl with one friend, Pam. She makes good grades and works on the school newspaper. Johanna has her sights on bad boy Paul. Paul lives with his mother after his father up and left them several years ago. After leaving his dad passes away. His dads things are packed away in a storage unit. This is where Paul "talks" to his dad and drinks beer. There are definitely some skeletons in Paul's closet.

After Johanna and Paul start dating the abuse starts. He promises he will change. Johanna's parents don't trust Paul and think he is bad for her after her grades start dropping. Will Paul really change? ( )

I thought this book was really well written, and quite realistic. Although a hard topic to read about, it's quite a common problem, and I think everyone should read this book.

The book was very interesting. It was shocking, and always kept you wondering if Johanna would go back to him, or not. I love love love the end when Johanna was meeting Paul's new girlfriend, and she says, "From a distance you could see her stunning green eyes, and you could even see the left one blacked from Paul's hand." I was like shocked, but like thinking wow once again he lied. Over all this book was really good. ( )
