Used to like Krentz's book a lot. Disposing of this one because I have run out of space. I wouldn't have kept it this long unless I had really liked it. ( )

Sara Fraser is bored with her life and decides to leave it for something else. She realises that her uncle Lowell Kincaid, somewhat of a black sheep and her favourite relative is missing. She goes to find him and instead finds Adrian Saville, whom her uncle had told her about.

Adrian is damaged, having just written a book he's looking for something to do next. His life has been a bit of a mess and he isn't used to not being in control, though around Sara he finds he wants to lose control.

A fun light read that's undemanding thought the thriller aspect did keep me guessing. ( )

Sara Frazer’s Uncle Lowell is missing. So she goes to his good friend Adrian Saville for answers. They discover a message from Lowell that he’s out of town taking care of some “business”, and wants Adrian to look after Sara until she gets back. Sara knows that her uncle’s business could land him in big trouble and wants to help. She suspects that it has something to do with “the Wolf”, a government agent trained by her uncle, one who might possibly have gone rogue. But Adrian takes his responsibility of her very seriously. After all, he explains, Sara’s uncle promised her to Adrian as a gift for finishing his first novel, Phantom.

The sinister Vaughn shows up, trying to coerce Sara into a plan to help her uncle. But Adrian has his own plan, one that doesn’t involve Sara. As Sara gives in to her growing attraction to Adrian, she begins to discover that he is more than what he seems to be. But when she finally separates fact from fiction, will it be too late for all of them?

This is a compelling read. The characters of the open carefree Sara and the dark and reserved Adrian are an enjoyable pair. The novel has a good, steady plot, and more importantly, good emotionality. ( )
