I've _liked_ Mad Jack - I think it was the first Coulter I read, and I've reread it a couple times. It was fun, and funny, and the carriage scene was amusing. This time it rubbed me all the wrong ways. They're not modern characters in period garb - they're wooden puppets in period garb, and they talk more to the invisible audience than to each other. It's like a sitcom, or a badly-scripted reality show. He's always telling himself how he will behave, and how she will behave. The story is silly too, and this time it wasn't funny how silly it was. I've tried several Coulters recently and each one is more annoying than the last - this is the last straw, if Mad Jack isn't readable I'm not going to try to read any more Coulters. Out, out, the whole lot of them! Mad Jack is in reality Winifrede Levering Bascombe, who, happily, has her name changed very quickly in the story. She arrives in London with the aunts, Mathilda and Maude, to beg the assistance of Lord Cliffe, Grayson St. Cyre. He welcomes the aunts, briefly spots the valet, Jack, and proceeds very quickly after their arrival to fall down the rabbit hole. He catches the valet, Jack, stealing his horse, Durban, chases Jack down, and then all sorts of interesting things happen. Enter Sinjun with her frantic husband, Colin, on her trail. Amidst all the laughter, however, there lurks a deadly secret that's ready to leap out and crush both Jack and Gray. Arriving from London with her Aunts Matilda & Maude, Jack (Winifred) pretended to be their valet. She was hiding from her wicked step-father. While stealing the prescious mare, Durban, of owner, Lord "Gray," he caught her, fell in love with her and they met with humorous battles of men trying to step into their lives. Gray was told they were brother & sister at one point. Jack finally got Gray's mother to set things straight. Gray was into saving women from their abusive men. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
