I was hesitant about the rating, because I believe that had I been at least two decades younger, I might have rated this book higher. Two stars is what I generally give to books that are okay, not terrible but nothing I'd go around talking about either. This book falls roughly on the higher end of one star.

That said, this isn't a bad book. It's a cute and predictable story, the kind you read in order to come out the other end smiling despite knowing exactly where the story is headed.

Both the plot and the voice are very young though. It definitely falls on the painfully innocent side of YA. I'd categorize it as MG, really. The characters are 15 years old about to turn 16, but to me, they behave more early middle school. The way the story was told, the over-the-top actions of the popular girl, the naive tone of the heroine - all of these make the book feel quite young.

Overall, it's the kind of story I probably would have giggled about back in 5th grade, but unlike some other YA/MG books, this one isn't the kind that has lasting power through the ages. ( )

Lexie and her twin brother Collin have always been the best of friends. A couple of years ago the duo changed to a trio when Jake moved to town.This summer Lexie and Collin are being split up. Her mother is forcing her to go to tennis camp (which she hates) without Collin her only friend. It just so happens Jake will be going along with the resident popular mean girl. Bree (the mean girl) has set her sights on Jake. Jake cannot stand the thought of having to fend off Bree's advances all summer, so Collin comes up with the ultimate idea. Lexie will pretend to be Jake's girlfriend. The problem is this is what she has wanted since the day they met, too bad she is only his best friend's sister. While pretending to be Jake's girlfriend, the new guy Riley is paying a lot of attention to Lexie and for some reason it's making Jake act strange.How will she survive the summer pretending to love the boy she has always been in love with. Will she finally get a boyfriend? Finally have that first kiss? and will it be for now ...or for real?
