This is a fast-paced and engaging supernatural story. The characters are believable and entertaining. The story makes sense within the rules of the particular world it happens in. There's a bit of initial confusion in that one set of characters kicks off the story and then we quickly switch to a second set, with little explanation. This does get cleared up in a very natural and logical way later. To say more would be to spoil the tale.
It's well worth reading. I'm happy I got to review it. It ends with the option to add a sequel, and I'd be happy if the author made it into a series. ( )Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. This book had an interesting premise, but I felt that it got very confused and attempted to do too much at once. There's multiple forms of possession, ghosts, cults, goddesses, and family problems. Overall, I did not enjoy the book very much, and I still feel slightly confused over some of the choices the author made.sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
When 24-year-old barista Ami is sacrificed by a cult, whose leader just so happens to be her childhood best friend and first love, Kaleb, she soon discovers a dark secret about her past that may be the world's undoing. In 2011, the ghosts invaded, and the world, for the most part treated their appearance as a joke. But for Ami, the situation wasn't so amusing when she discovered that the slightest ghostly touch forced her to relive the specters' worst moments. A curse that no mere mortal should have to bear. But then again, it seems to some that Ami is no mere mortal. At least that's the belief of a group of cultists who are convinced that there is more to the young woman than meets the eye. It's just too bad that she'll have to die to prove that she's not the fabled goddess of the underworld. As Ami's control of the ghosts grows, she is left with questions she can't answer. Her only option is to force the truth from Kaleb. But that means that she's got to convince him and his followers to quit trying to killing her long enough to talk. And, when the ghosts shift from being a novelty to becoming a danger to society, Ami must decide if she wants to uncover her forgotten past or if she's willing to let the whole world go to hell to escape it.
