Bottles in the Basement is a book I couldn't put down. My mom has struggled with alcoholism for years and years and has hit the point where her good health is gone forever. Its been an incredibly painful thing to experience and Ive felt so alone until I read this book. It was all so painfully relatable but made me realize that Im not alone and life will at some point go on. A lot of us who love an alcoholic suffer in silence and it can be impossible to know who in your life is being affected. I thank McGloin for sharing her story! Not a bad book however i dont think i would read it again. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. "Bottles In The Basement " is a memoir describing the heartache and realities experienced living with a "closet" alcoholic husband. The book is a captivating, no holds barred look into the author's life of love, tragedy, and rebirth. Very well written and worth reading. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
The author's husband was a high-functioning alcoholic, a clinical term that belied drinking Scotch for breakfast. He kept his addiction a secret. Suspecting something was amiss, she became a detective: kissing for the sake of sniffing, discovering trash bags full of empties, flasks in his briefcase and eventually over $60,000 in credit card debt. Her pleas to get help were ignored, her support and encouragement spurned. Each day brought fresh worries-will he get fired, get into a car crash, get killed? Their lives were spiraling out of control forcing her into a front row seat to rock bottom. Then, a devastating diagnosis. McGloin's story will resonate deeply with partners and loved ones who find themselves dragged down into a scary, out-of-control underworld-addiction, adultery, gambling, financial infidelity-and wondering: What happened to my life?
