Perché quello che si insinua nella loro quiete attraversa con la forza di un'onda irresistibile il cuore di Gualtiero, che ora smania per avere dalla vita tutto ciò che il lavoro gli ha impedito di godere. Ma in quella tiepida primavera sembra abbia iniziato a palpitare anche il cuore del carabiniere Beola, da qualche tempo osservato speciale del maresciallo Maccadò, preoccupato che il giovane non commetta sciocchezze violando il regolamento dell'Arma. E finalmente arriva il gran giorno dei panettieri a Bellano, impreziosito dal Federale di Como in persona, che vorrebbe saperne di più di quel paese turbolento dove non si riesce a tenere in piedi una sezione di partito neanche a piangere. Finally the big day of the bakers arrives in Bellano, embellished by the Federal of Como himself, who would like to know more about that turbulent town where it is not possible to keep a party section standing, not even to cry.
