Galdone's bright illustrations capture well the emotional tide of the story. However, he ends of each verse of the rhyme in odd ways, without finishing the meter. This makes for clunky reading aloud, as the sing-sing rhythm repeatedly ends abruptly and then restarts.

This is such a great book to read aloud to kids in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade. This book is about three little kittens who get into problems. Even when the three little kittens get in trouble, the mom cat still loves them. The illustrations bring to life the story and the expressions are very clear. An activity in the classroom could involve the students writing a short essay about a problem they got into and how their parent or guardian helped them. ( )
