And Then There Were None meets I Know What You Did Last Summer in #1 international bestseller Darby Kane's latest gripping and twisty thriller set on a private island in Maine where secrets piled upon secrets and lies upon lies are all revealed in one fateful weekend. Emily Hunt went missing from her affluent liberal arts school on graduation weekend. Her body was found floating in a river, and a quiet loner who most people on campus really didn't know died by suicide. A tenuous link--one text--bound the two dead students together and was enough for law enforcement to close the case. But they got it wrong and now someone is determined to set it right. Twelve years later, college friends gather to celebrate an engagement over a long overdue getaway on a swanky private island in Maine--with only one way in and one way out. Sierra Prescott, invited as a guest and unconnected to past events, is the only person who soon senses not all is what it seems. The tension in the air is ignited when they find a dead man in the trunk of a car with a note: time to tell the truth. And things only get worse. As a torrential storm strands them together, the group's buried stories begin to surface and secrets are bartered. To survive this deadly party, they'll need to stop a killer before they become prey. … (más)

An isolated island, a group of college friends, and a party form the backdrop to this mystery thriller.

Years have passed when the invitation to an engagement party comes in the mail. Old college friends, bound by secrets and lies, agree to attend and arrive for a weekend meant for celebration. Twelve years have elapsed since their friend Emily Hunt was murdered and the student who was thought to be guilty committed suicide. But this group is about to get a surprise. Someone knows that they have not been telling the truth. And they are about to be exposed.

This novel was full of melodrama, deplorable characters, and far too wordy to hold interest. It reminded me of a bad teenage slasher film. I could not stand these young adults and their behavior. Every bit of this was such a trope including the island setting and the storm. I didn't feel any tension or suspense and only kept reading to find out if all my guesses were right. Predictable and annoying with the ending you expect. I'd pass if I were you.

Thank you to the publisher for the e-book ARC to read and review. I also got the audiobook from the library to follow along and the narrator had a lot of voices to try to make distinct and often fell short. Sadly, this was not for me. ( )

Every time I thought I had a clue as to who had done what, another one of those colorful fish swam by. If you like 'set in one spot with evil lurking in the dark' stories, this is your chicken. Gory, loaded with secrets and layers of mistrust, plus a dandy surprise at the end...All designed to keep the reader turning pages. ( )

No one wanted to go to the engagement party of a college friend who had been engaged numerous times.

When they arrived, one of the friends who was not one who had attended college with everyone, wanted to immediately leave.

The group had to park and get to the venue via a water taxi that can only move safely when the tide is out.

Would they make it to the island?

They made it to the island, but would they make it back off the island?

The minute they arrived, everyone felt uneasy and then a car was found in the garage with a dead body in the trunk.

Not just any body….it was the body of one of their friends who did something awful years ago.

Along with the body was a note that said: Time to tell the truth.

That note referred to the disappearance and murder twelve years ago of their friend Emily.

Why did their friend want to have the engagement party on this remote, not easily accessed island?

Who was really behind this invitation and what were they up to?

A tense read with the reader wondering who if any of these friends killed Emily twelve years ago and who killed the man in the trunk. 5/5

Thank you to the publisher for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ( )

This story is about a group of college friends who meet on a remote island of Maine for an engagement party. Murders start to occur and it becomes apparent that what is behind the deaths is some sort of deception that goes back to college graduation week. The friends have covered-up some deep dark secrets that relate to the death of a friend from their group who died under mysterious circumstances.

This book reminded me a lot of I Know What You Did Last Summer. If you like thrillers that have slasher elements, this book would be for you. Most of the story takes place on an out of the way island, on a dark and stormy night, with all the characters wondering who will be killed next.

The problem for me regarding this book is that it doesn't break a lot of new ground. It just felt like I have seen this type of scenario in one of the many slasher films I have seen over the years. The other issue for me is that the majority of the characters are unlikeable, with some who are downright despicable. I couldn't understand how these people were friends as they appeared to consistently lie and betray each other. There was just one character I truly cared about and was rooting for, and two others I sort of liked. Otherwise, I really didn't care who survived or who died.

There were some suspenseful moments between the killer and the other characters that made this novel worthwhile. The mystery behind the original murders definitely kept my interest, especially for the second half of the book. My final summation is that while this book wasn't groundbreaking, it was entertaining.
