"Graphic designer Sonya MacTavish is stunned to learn that her late father had a twin he never knew about--and that her newly discovered uncle, Collin Poole, has left her almost everything he owned, including a majestic Victorian house on the Maine coast, which the will stipulates she must live in it for at least three years. Her engagement recently broken, she sets off to find out why the boys were separated at birth-and why it was all kept secret until a genealogy website brought it to light. Trey, the young lawyer who greets her at the sprawling clifftop manor, notes Sonya's unease-and acknowledges that yes, the place is haunted...but just a little. Sure enough, Sonya finds objects moved and music playing out of nowhere. She sees a painting by her father inexplicably hanging in her deceased uncle's office, and a portrait of a woman named Astrid, whom the lawyer refers to as "the first lost bride." It's becoming clear that Sonya has inherited far more than a house. She has inherited a centuries-old curse, and a puzzle to be solved if there is any hope of breaking it."--… (más)

Writing style isn’t for me - it just felt so cheesy and scripted, the characters and dialogue didn’t feel real.
This book also didn’t need to be 400 pages and end on a cliffhanger.
The romance also felt lifeless - I will not be continuing. ( )

A romance/multigenerational serial murder/ghost story that keeps you riveted as the ghost activity and the relationships heat up. Although I love the characters, Roberts always seems to write characters who are flawless, talented, beautiful, insightful, and full of life and personality. I like how they always know what to say and do but I'm also jealous that they're always so perfect and loved. Aside from my feelings of inadequacy, I really like all the characters- there like TV/movie actors who look good and say all the right lines and you want to be their biggest fan. Good start to the series and it got more fantastic as it went on so I'm excited to see where the next book takes me. ( )

I’m not usually a fan of ghost stories but I loved this book. I am a Nora Roberts fan. Sophia had had a devastating blow but wound up in a beautiful, even though scary and intriguing, setting. ( )

Great story with engaging characters. I admit to expecting something a bit different - since this was book 1 of a trilogy, I expected 3 compartmentalized couples getting together, and this is not what occurred. This appears to be the groundwork for subsequent installations... ( )

I really liked the beginning, and than it got boring and I had to force myself to finish it. I don't think I'll continue on with the series. Three stars. ( )
