Each chapter, related by two characters, presents alternating views of events, much like taking an onion apart. What is the secret at the center of these many layers? A young man and woman initially live together as a result of attraction, find they are related, go hiking in the mountains, there's a death in the mountains, and another much older death. Was the death in the mountains murder? If so, which of the two narrators committed the deed? What is the nature of the two main characters relationship? Is anything at the center of this onion -- is anything resolved? I enjoyed Onda's 'Aosawa Murders,' and I was intrigued by the first 24 chapters (190 pages), but the ending was abrupt and enigmatic.
