I will try to post capsule reviews for both later today, but as a start I will say I recommend both for this Challenge, ... ... Magnolias, Moonlight and Murder by Sara Rosett, a mystery that takes place in Georgia. It's okay but I'm waiting for Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil to arrive from Bookmooch. I would definitely put in a plug for The Devil in the White City and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil as well...I just gave them to two of my best friends for their birthdays, and they are loving them. I also really enjoyed No Room for Doubt by Angela Dove, and The Suspicions of Mr. ... ... I'm a firm believer that there is no such thing as useless information!

At Large and at Small I saw the movie adaptation of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil well after reading the book. I rather enjoyed it (details of the book were fuzzy by then), but definitely acknowledge that the book was the better option. :)

This book still remains a favorite. Sometimes the truth really is better than fiction! Berendt ... Not quite as quirky as Midnight in the garden of good and evil, but a very interesting read. Very atmospheric--makes me wish I wasn't so afraid of flying so I could take a trip to Venice.
Just started John Berendt's City of Falling Angels, which I believe I will enjoy as much as I did his Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, if the first hundred pages are a sufficient example of what's to come. ... book about Venice that is quite recent ... can't remember the name, but I'm sure others will. By the same author who wrote Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil; was quite good because of how current it is. John Berendt is also great. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is awesome, and City of Falling Angels wasn't bad either.

Just my two cents. :) ... the most melancholy titles of all times. To me, it brings to mind tears, loss, the "blues" in every sense of the word. And Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil--black sky, bright moon illuminating poisonous flowers next to night-blooming cereus and other beautiful plants.

Inside the front cover on the first blank page is his signature. Does anyone else have a copy of this book, and is this book signed or is it a printed signature done by the publisher? ... little unrealistic, but otherwise a thoroughly enjoyable novel and, I agree, very tenderly written. Very human.
Finished Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil earlier today. I've still in love with this book. I kept wondering how Berendt was going to reach a satisfactory ending without ... ... (...and if you were able to only buy one book while in the bookstore).

My husband and I also enjoyed Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The book made me think that Savannah would be an interesting city to visit. It certainly was presented in a colorful light in ... I'm currently reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. Almost half way through this magical, lyrical evocative story of a New Yorker drawn to the southern city of Savannah. There is, apparently, a murder somewhere in the story (which is a true story) but I haven't got ... ... of capturing the abject loneliness in space.

I think a travel book is any book that makes you want to go to a specific place. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil made me want to go to Savannah, which I did. I loved it. Anne Rice's books (specifically A Feast of All Saints) made me want to go to New Orleans

Books like Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil are non-fiction that read like a novel. I don't think a book like that needs footnotes. If I was curious about a fact, I'd just do ...
