I Shot Bruce is supposed to be an analogy for Pete Best, the 5th Beatle. I found the book hard to get into and was unable to get through it. The character was not interesting nor did the plot grab my attention within the first third. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. Vijay Asunder is a wannabe musician. He auditions for a role in a band that would eventually become world famous; however, he is unceremoniously dismissed from the band. Vijay is, obviously, distraught, and plans revenge-- the murder of the band members. I Shot Bruce is a tale of Vijay's revenge, set up by years of hatred. The book chronicles the band's rise to fame and the decades after the band fades from the public eye, detailing each member's life post-music. I Shot Bruce is supposed to be an analogy for Pete Best, a "5th Beatle," who was removed from the band. It deals with obsession to the point of self-destruction. There were parts where the plot and characters were hard-to-follow. However, Brett Busang has a suburb writing style and voice that shines, even among the hazy plot. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
Set in London, beginning in the early sixties and spanning five decades, I Shot Bruce follows Vijay Asunder, a rock-and-roll wannabe who, many decades after he is spurned by the manager of a singing group that eventually becomes world-famous, finally decides that he must kill the one person that symbolizes the success that has eluded him, his replacement. During a fifty-year span of time, Asunder follows the fortunes of the band and its various members as he pursues the alternate and ever-so-quiet, but not-very-satisfying life he's made for himself as an antique dealer. Yet with each passing year, and with each reminder of "what might have been", his obsession for revenge grows, until finally he must act.Conceived loosely on the untimely dismissal and subsequent life of Pete Best, the so-called 'fifth Beatle', Asunder's perspective and his ultimate commitment to retribution differs markedly from Ringo Starr's predecessor. Intelligent and intense, I Shot Bruce chronicles and dramatizes obsession to the point of self-destruction. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

No, not really…unless you could have been a star playing in one of the most famous rock and roll bands of all time.
Oh, when you put it that way….
Vijay Asunder will never understand how he could have been dissed by his friends from the Keysters.
It was exactly 11:47 when his band mates shattered him with the bad news.
It’s now 50 years later and Vijay still can’t forget and there is only one way he can think of to put things right.
In what appears to be this author’s first book, we get an in-depth look at a what-if scenario. What if you had ALMOST been the drummer in The Beatles….er…I mean The Keysters?
I want to thank the publisher (Open Books) for providing me with the ARC through LibraryThing’s Early Reviewers program for an honest review. ( )
