Book One of the Wayenor Saga. Years of chaos are coming to an end. Kallendia's Castles, the principality's main means of defense, are slowly being rid of the bandits and villains who overran them. The plan is simple: promising warriors, male and female alike, are named to the knighthood and each is offered the chance to win back a Castle. Victors will be granted the title of Count-or Countess-as part of the Prince's new policy of total equality between the sexes. One who has earned the chance to try is Vannessa. As a child she was a homeless waif, roaming the streets of Fathron City. Under the tutelage of the wizard Carral, she has become a skilled soldier and a leader wise beyond her years. The officers of her eclectic army include all the civilized races of Kallendia: Human, Silverleaf, Rockborn, and even Reptilian. Her troops stand with her in the fight against savagery and barbarism. Vannessa must lead them all through long marches, fierce battles, betrayals and blood-feuds. She will make bitter foes, but strengthen staunch friendships. Startling feats of magic will test her courage and her leadership. The challenges are immense, but the rewards could be great. If Vannessa can wrest the town and Castle of Wayenor from the grip of the thieving brigand Black Mayr, then she will claim the title of The Countess of Wayenor.… (más)
