Taoism is an historic Chinese philosophical religion based on the idea of Dao (Tao), or "the way," an approach to life that seeks to live in balance and harmony with oneself, human society, and the natural world. The formative text of Taoism includes this 6th century B.C.E. collection of teachings known as Dao De Jing (or Tao Te Ching) by the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu.
