This is a delightfully entertaining graphic picture book that combines facts about numerous insects with a very entertaining storyline narrated by Burt. My kindergarteners adore it - and it has the advantage of using humor that adults will enjoy as well. Parents have enjoyed it, increasing the children’s interest in insects. “Awesome insect super facts” are included at the end. A wonderful addition to any library! Do not skip the endpapers of this fantastic book about good-spirited Burt, a ten-lined June beetle, also known as a watermelon beetle: all the other bugs and insects have superpowers...but Burt is merely "super happy to be here." Readers will learn tons of interesting beetle facts, and cheer for Burt when he discovers his "superpower": some heavy insects can break spiderwebs. "Some bugs have super-power like abilities. And then there's Burt the beetle. He's not strong and he can't run fast. He doesn't even bite. He's more of a hugger, really. But Burt wants more. He wants a SUPERPOWER. There's just one tiny problem: what kind of special abilities do June beetles have?"-- No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

This was a super cute read about finding what's unique and helpful about yourself. I love how it's a very quick, appealing story while also being jam-packed with fun facts about various insects. I think it's a great way to get kids to learn by having fiction that incorporates nonfiction so seamlessly.
The illustrations are relatively simple, with few extraneous details, but help tell the story. They fit the humorous tone of the book nicely as well. ( )
