This book has great content judging from the Table of Contents and a nice Resources section in the back to include book titles for parents and professionals on the topic as well as general anxiety and other mental health issues. The Resources section also includes professional organizations and their websites which gives readers a step up for health literacy. It even has a list of Apps. The titles indicates it is written for kid's but suspiciously like a textbook with dense content on each page and long chapters. I like the many break out boxes throughout but they still do not break up the dense text. This book looks more appropriate for teens.Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. A helpful and clear illustration of control being the antidote to anxiety in many forms. We are never without control though sometimes what we control is small enough to be easily overlooked.
This workbook doesn't feel overly clinical or scholarly. You will find that you actually enjoy flipping through it and immersing yourself in the skills found there. This book is filled with many practical suggestions for coping with and conquering the various types of obsessions and compulsions that each child may be coping with. It includes mental and physical exercises that kids can learn, plus interviews with children describing their own feelings and experiences. Although written for children and teens, I think their parents and other adults could also benefit from many of the suggestions.Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. In reviewing this book, I turned to my daughter who is 24 and has had OCD since she was a little girl. She gives a big thumbs-up to this book for many reasons.First, she said she appreciates the straightforward nature of the text. It's easy-to-understand, clear, and speaks directly and honestly to consider and offer guidance for the many complex situations those with OCD face. Second, she likes the fact that this is written by a professional with experience in the field. My daughter has read quite a few of those self-help type books that purport to offer guidance for those with OCD but are really just lots of "you can do it" gibberish. "Take Control of OCD" offers new information and tools, and it is written for a specific audience, with proven ideas to help cope. It also will be helpful to a wide range of OCD challenges and can benefit those with mild OCD and more serious cases. Her one caveat: a great deal of attention is paid here to exposure therapy, which doesn't work for everyone. My daughter recommends this book for older teens to younger adults. Some chapters were dense for me as an adult. This book is way too old for a 10 year old and I can even see teens losing interest in some chapters. I liked the layout of the chapters, the recap at the end of each chapter, the work pages available enhance the experience. This is a great resource for both parents and teens. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
