As interesting as it is, this book is more like a resource than anything else, offering a collection of all Jim Morrison's writing uncurated. Apart from the introductions, there is limited background and context given. The many pieces of writing are left to stand on their own which many of them do The final poem, 'As I look back' pieces together fragments of his writing in an autobiographic style, and is perhaps the most complete portrait of his short life. It's a beautifully presented book as well. ( )

Let us forget about The Doors for a moment and focus on Mr. Morrison for what he truly was...a writer first and foremost. This book in reality is all that he was. It would be easy to say that everything he did was overshadowed by his persona and his publicized problems. But It wasn't. A pretty solid book with all of his writings, thoughts and other tidbits. A few photos and some very personal ideas. Was he a troubled soul? Without a doubt. But did he have a way with words? Indeed. ( )
