I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher for review purposes.

“Singapore Killer” is an intriguing novel with a well-schooled protagonist named Ash Carter. The book is set in Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia and evokes the locations with enough description to bring them to life. The themes of the story are shocking and intense but relieved with humor in just the right amounts. There are several threads to be unraveled, with mysteries revealed at a few points along the way, and these are handled skillfully.

Love the country of Singapore and love reading the history of the British in Singapore. I would recommend reading all the Murray Bailey books in the Ash Carter series as they always have twists and turns and sometimes have unexpected endings. ( )

This is a very good and well plotted thriller. I really liked the setting of the story in Singapore and Malaya. The character of the area was captured well.

The story line had plenty of twists and turns and kept me guessing as to the final outcome. When I got to the end I was not disappointed.

This was the first novel by this author that I have read. It will not be the last. ( )

Singapore Killer is the fifth book in the Ash Carter Thriller series. The publisher kindly furnished me with a copy of the book and I have not read any of the previous books in the series.

Former military officer turned investigator Ash Carter is called in to solve a helicopter crash that doesn't appear to be an accident. Is it linked to a series of cold-blooded murders that have recently cropped up in the area? Where's the lost dog? And what's really happening in the jungles of Malaya? As Carter delves deeper into the mystery, he finds more than even he bargained for.

As I mentioned, I haven't read the earlier books in the series, but Singapore Killer can definitely be read as a stand-alone novel. Ash Carter is an intriguing protagonist -- well-schooled in battle techniques, tough yet compassionate. The action is set in Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia, a big city, small towns and desolate jungle, and all of these locations were evoked with enough description to bring them to life, but not at all tediously lengthy. The themes of the story were shocking and intense, but relieved with humour in just the right amounts. There were several threads to be unravelled, with mysteries revealed at a few points along the way, and these were handled skilfully.

I'll be honest, I don't normally read this genre of books, but I highly enjoyed Singapore Killer. The action ramped up more and more as it went along, the twists kept me going, and I couldn't help but race to the end.

Would I read more by this author? Definitely! ( )

Great start and an interesting ending. Ash is now a private investigator with his own Effie Perrine like secretary except that she is Chinese and a senior lady. Short of revenues, Ash finds lost dogs and investigates, gratis, a small business extortion scheme. Eventually, he starts connecting the dots about missing and murdered British soldiers. The murders continue, even accelerate as he investigates a commune based upon sexual abuse as well as gold smuggling. ( )

ARC
This was hard to get into, but I also didn't know it was in a series. It can be a stand alone since you can figure out back story. The last 25% was a quicker since things were finally starting to come together. Being set in Asia was a good change from what I am use to, but there wasn't actually much culture added to the story. I'd recommend to readers liking the genre but will not run out to read the next one right away. ( )
