This is very much a typical YA without a lot worth mentioning.
Nothing in the part I've read was particularly bad beyond some typical YA clichées.
My biggest gripe is that the author liberally uses tropes authors typically don't get away with in other genres to make it easier for herself.
I might have liked this as a teenager. But there is nothing here for adult me.

Yes, it has Harry Potter flavoring, but the story and the characters stand nicely on their own. I like how the group came together even when they had little incentive to do so. You're kept on your toes for most of the story, wondering who's good, who's bad, and even at times, who's dead. A very satisfying story, one that makes me want to read more by both authors. ( )

Heck YES!!! GREAT READ!

I was hooked from the start! Wild is thrust into a crazy adventure thanks to a creepy stranger who magically leaves an envelope ordering her sixteen year old younger brother Billy attend something called The Culling. A magical trial to enter a magical school. The last time this envelope appeared her beloved older brother Tommy was called. He ended up mysteriously dead less than a year later with no explanation and nothing but an empty coffin to bury. This time was different, as there was no choice. This time the letter threatened the destruction of her family if her too trusting younger brother "Billy" didn't accept. She refused to allow her younger brother join Tommy in death. The entire thing was insane . Did magic really exist? In order to save her brother and the rest of her family she chose to impersonate him. Thus starts the beginning of learning about this world and an abundance of secrets. This book has one fierce MC with a huge heart, instincts galore, and a need to learn what truly happened to her big brother. Wild is determined to uncover all these secrets...and meets an intriguing cast of characters along the way who might just become friends and the occasional enemy. Who is really out to harm her family? Two of my favourite authors join forces to bring us the first book in an exciting series!! I can't wait for book two!!! 💗 ( )

Strong finish

The beginning dragged a bit, then it got confusing (on purpose), then things really started to happen.

Solid MC, good supporting characters with strong personalities, and a narrative with direction.

A few minor spelling/word choice errors; nothing to really break the flow.

I will read the next book. ( )
