A lovely description of the Champagne area of France and the wine making process. The horrors of the Nazi invasion of France. The resistance fighters and those that don't take a stance against the Nazi's or just don't believe it's happening. The frailties of the human spirit. Add to the story a few twists and turns at the end. All go into making a wonderful historical fiction. ( ) I found this book to be fascinating, including the notes by the author, in all things relating to the making of champagne. Although I have not liked drinking it in the past, I will try again at the first opportunity with more appreciation. The resistance part of the book was not as dramatic as some other books I have read, but still was good. This is my third book by this author and I plan to read more. First Historical Fiction book. First Kristin Harmel book. Won't be the last of either. Intertwining a fictional, yet possible, story of love, regret & perseverance with historical elements of geography, wine production & holocaust. It was a beautifully written story. When Céline recklessly follows her heart in one desperate bid for happiness, and Inès makes a dangerous mistake with a Nazi collaborator, they risk the lives of those they loveâ??and the vineyard that ties them together. New York, 2019: Recently divorced, Liv Kent is at rock bottom when her feisty, eccentric French grandmother shows up unannounced, insisting on a trip to France.
