"When angels fell from the sky to war with the demons that ravaged Earth, their combined powers infected humanity. Now, the humans are assigned one of two fates, being either demon gifted or angel blessed. After wings sprout from Brielle's back at her awakening ceremony, she's sure she's an angel blessed celestial. It's not until she sees black wings that she realises something is terribly wrong. Having sold her contract at a young age to save her father's life means she should be bound for Tainted Academy. That is, until a fallen angel unexpectedly fights for her to be accepted into Fallen Academy, the elite school for those that inhabit Angel City. She's immediately matched with her impossibly handsome celestial teacher, Lincoln Grey. Laying eyes on him, her first thought is that her time at the academy might actually be fun, but this theory quickly fades when she and Lincoln clash on day one. To further prove her admission into Fallen Academy is cursed, the entire school is thrown into chaos when an Abrus demon reveals that he knows Brielle's secret. Now, above all else, Lincoln must fight to protect her. To his surprise, the only thing more difficult than trying to save her ... is trying not to fall for her."--Back cover.… (más)

I am torn like I am so frequently.
On one hand, this couldn't be a more cliched supernatural academy story.
On the other, it does what it does well and neither the author nor the MC takes themselves too seriously for it to become truly cringeworthy despite it being quite corny in places.

At first glance, the world and the plot are really quite fun but as soon as you look closer you realize how abysmally bad the world-building really is. It took me a bit but I eventually realized how little sense any of it makes. There are at least as many contradictions as there are building blocks in the world-building.
The only way you can enjoy this book is by not looking too close and just taking a lot of stuff at face value.

This doesn't extend to the personalities of the characters which is something I expected to find after reading the most upvoted review.
The characters feel very much their age in a good sense.
The MC has some mary sue vibes going on but that is kind of part of the whole cliché the entire book is built on.

I am almost ashamed of having enjoyed the book as much as I did (strong 3-star personal enjoyment) but I can't give this anything above 2 stars from an even slightly more objective viewpoint.

For teenagers that are somewhat new to reading and new to the beaten supernatural academy trope in particular, I can totally see this being a very enjoyable book. ( )

This HAD POTENTIAL but definitely for mature audiences, I almost stopped because of some of the stuff because that type of stuff isn't stuff I like in books, most of the time. Might have to reread with more mature eyes now. The writing was meh and wasn't a fan of bri. ( )
