Yes, I actually read a quilting book, instead of just looking at the pictures. I started out that way, but she had a couple of diagrams that were intriguing and I was hornswaggled into reading the whole thing. It had some good information about colors and placement that I could understand. Sure, I've seen it before, but she presented it in such a way that maybe now I understand it a little better. Maybe. And the patterns she has presented are wonderful timing for the round robin I'm in! ( )

These colors, with fair stitches joined to form a bold True-Lovers' Knot, Were lame Aunt Miriam's--in their glow Her dull days she forgot.
My strong grandmother, unto whom Life brought most bitter grief and smart, Piecing this flower basket learned To mend a broken heart.
Dead kinsfolk, who have left to me These quilts you made in vanished springs, Would that I had your fortitude You joy in simple things!

Because this book is an effort to begin documentation of many of our quilting patterns, I wish to dedicate it to all those people, impossible to name, who developed the art of quilting. Though their patterns were handed down from one generation to another, the identities all too often were lost in time.

[Introduction] This book has four purposes: to present a catalog of square geometric designs for use in quiltmaking and other crafts; to classify these designs into the categories set forth in my previous book, Patchwork Patterns, for easier identification and drafting; to offer a guide to the use of fabric; and to include a section on border designs that responds to the renewed interest in medallion quilts and elaborate borders.
It is common knowledge that many of the quilt patterns in use today were also used during colonial times.
