For those readers familiar with the Anne of Green Gables series, Anne shares much in common with the main character in this stand alone novel. Both characters have a headstrong and competitive, yet pleasing nature. The circumstances surrounding this story are quite different though, as Jane lives with her mother and grandmother, while being led to believe her father is dead. The story evolves from there, with Jane eventually traveling from Toronto, Canada, to Prince Edward Island. I didn't find Jane to be quite as likable and endearing as Anne. (Sorry, it is hard not to compare the two characters.) I also didn't like the story as much, so I was glad this wasn't part of a book series. It was fun to read once though and cross it off my TBR list. Jane is my favorite L.M. Montgomery character. I love Anne, Emily, the Story Girl (although I always identified more with Cecily) and everyone else. Still, practical, helpful, Superior Jane was the one who I wanted to be. Rereading this novel as an adult, which I do every couple years, it continues to be one of my favorite books. L.M. Montgomery is a long time and all time favorite author of mine. She writes the perfect girls story with just the right mix of adventure, drama and happiness. I find her books a comfort to read and have re-read most of her works many times over the years. They are classics for a reason and that reason is they are great. These are true comfort books for me and books I enjoy re-reading again and again. Nice! Jane is another imaginative child, but her imagination doesn't get in the way of her competence. Unlike the usual orphans, she has rather too much family - her parents are separated, by the efforts of her aunt and grandmother. I loved her settling in on the Island, and her household abilities (I want some of those recipes!). And a lovely happy ending - Irene misjudged, how good. Not a magnificent story, but highly enjoyable; it might be worth reading twice. Pertenece a las series editorialesVirago Modern Classics (620)

HTML: The Happiest Summer of Her Life Her whole life, Jane had believed her father was dead. It was, therefore, quite a shock to receive an invitation to stay with him for the summer on Prince Edward Island. From their very first meeting, Jane falls in love with her charming father and his whimsical cottage on Lantern Hill. A whole summer of fun and adventure, meeting neighbors, and making friendsâ??far away from her grandmother's dreary house in the city. If only she could get her mother to come too. As Jane juggles her love and loyalty for both parents, she dares to dream...a dream that she and her parents could live together without Grandmother directing their livesâ??of a house where they could all find home. What Readers Are Saying: "Out of the fantastic books Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote, Jane of Lantern Hill is my absolute favorite."
