How to get good with money, even if you have no idea where to start.

The Financial Diet is the personal finance book for people who don't care about personal finance. Whether you're in need of an overspending detox, buried under student debt, or just trying to figure out how to live on an entry-level salary, The Financial Diet gives you tools to make a budget, understand investments, and deal with your credit. Chelsea Fagan has tapped a range of experts to help you make the best choices for you, but she also knows that being smarter with money isn't just about what you put in the bank. It's about everythingâ??from the clothes you put in your closet, to your financial relationship habits, to the food you put in your kitchen (instead of ordering in again). So The Financial Diet gives you the tools to negotiate a raise and the perfect cocktail recipe to celebrate your new salary.
The Financial Diet will teach you:

  • how to get good with money in a year.
    • the ingredients everyone needs to have a budget-friendly kitchen.
    • how to talk about awkward money stuff with your friends.
    • the best way to make (and stick to!) a budget.
    • how to take care of your house like a grown-up.
    • what the hell it means to invest (and how you can do it).

This is an absolute beginners guide to personal finance. However, I believe there are many other books on the subject that are far better. Avoid if you are offended by profanity. ( )

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. A friend recommended it to me, and I’m surprised it took me this long to find it as I’m a huge personal finance nerd and I love to read books about making better financial decisions. This was such an amazing book with a really down to earth way to look at money. There’s no telling you specific things to do, but rather specific ways to think about money and decide what you need to do, which is fantastic. There’s also a lot of discussion about the importance of talking about money and having more conversations about personal finance, which I agree is really important and I’m glad Chelsea is pointing this out! Totally recommend this book. ( )

My goal for this year is to understand my finances better, so I've been reading the TFD blog. This book is a great tool for getting the basics! ( )

Not the best financial book I've ever read, but one of the most fun. The Financial Diet's target audience is millennial women; it's filled with humor, Sex and the City references, cute drawings, foul language, and lifestyle tips. That's not to say that other demographics wouldn't enjoy it, just that it's certainly not intended as a financial guide for just anyone. Personally, I enjoyed it. The only part I didn't care for was the recipes, I'm looking how to improve my budget, not roast a chicken. Other than that, I really enjoyed the book, it was full of really good interviews, smart advice, and funny quips. This book is not a one size fits all financial fix though, and depending on your situation you'll have to cherry pick what works for you. I enjoyed it and will refer back to it time and again. ( )
