I was so excited to hear that this book was in the making. I enjoyed the lives of the HON family. The journey through the series was amazing and the growth of the characters shows a great author(s). I was thrilled to get caught up with everyone and see where this book would take them. The Nerd Herd is still a favorite of mine. I would recommend this book to all the HON fans out there. ( )

This is a year after the big fight with Neferet, everyone is coming together for Zoey's 18th birthday party but the white bull (darkness) is meddling. Iniitial impression, after all they've been through how could they not be suspicious and not recognize big clues that all was not right. After a protection circle goes wonky, red vampires from another world are summoned and things change. Very new age, a little sermonistic. It's a good message but it was a bit annoying after awhile.

I read this over one slow night at work. I am so lucky I have a job where I can read when it is slow. On to my review!

I have not read any of the previous books. I had never even heard of them. Of course, I am an adult, and probably not who this series was marketed to. I have to say, the book did seem very juvenile. A bunch of kids playing at being adults, every teens fantasy.

So Zoey is turning 18. Meanwhile, she is in a very "adult" relationship. Living with a "hot" boyfriend, having lots of sex, in charge of pretty much the whole vampire community. This seems very unrealistic. And I know that calling a book about vampires unrealistic is a contradiction. It also bothered me that the book glorifies underage sex.

I liked the idea of the red and the blue vampires. It seemed like a cool original idea. In the book, a bunch of red vampires from another dimension come into our world and wreak havoc. A bunch of people die, then the problem is solved. A little too easily for my tastes. Really, the group didn't have to do much at all.

So, the description of the book made it sound much better than it actually was. This is a book for teens. Adults will just get annoyed with it. ( )

I liked this book from the beginning because they had a full recap of House of Night things in case the reader needed a refresher. They told us what happened, who the main characters are, and pretty much HoN 101. This is super helpful and I wish all series would do this!
The story picks up not long after the original series finished. I like seeing Zoey and her circle grown up and in their High Council positions. My favorite part of the book was seeing Jack again. He's so sweet and adorable and Damian needed him. It's crazy that there's another world out there where things have gone to shit and there's copies of our "Nerd Herd" living alternate realities. This book switched points of view quite frequently, as did most of the HoN books, and it's not my favorite. Having a couple points of view is fine, but more than 4 or so is a bit much for me. I did like seeing Aphrodite grow up and make positive decisions for herself and I love seeing Nyx. She's so kind and loving and the perfect goddess.
The ending was good and I'm looking forward to the other books in this series. ( )

The Story:

The Good: The Nerd Herd is back! After being spread all across America everyone is back to celebrate Zoey’s 18th Birthday

The Bad: So is Nefert, or maybe it’s just her influence. The White Bull starts some drama that ends up opening a portal to another world. A world where Neferet’s crazy plan to dominate humankind has worked.

The Unbelievable: I know Zoey has a special connection with the goddess Nix but to believe that a teenager and her teenage friends are the people solely capable to lead an entire species… seems a little too much to me. But I rolled with it.

Overall: I liked the concept of another world. I like how they helped the red fledglings and vampires from that world and I see that developing a lot in the future. I do think there was a fair amount of fluff that was unnecessary. I am looking forward to the next installment but will not go through great pains to
