The only thing hotter than the weather South of the Mason Dixon line are the boys. Worn, faded blue jeans, slow Southern drawls, and those naughty moments in the back of pickup trucks a girl never forgets. Welcome to the world of the Sutton boys. Five brothers who fight, party, drink a little too much, but more importantly, they love their momma. Nothing can tear them apart... until the girl next door wins more than one of their hearts. Dixie Monroe grew up with the Sutton Brothers, Asher, Bray, Brent, Steel and Dallas. Although Dixie and Steel were the same age, it was Asher, the oldest of the Sutton Boys, who stole her heart when she was only thirteen. Asher assumed the role of protector and made sure that Dixie was well taken care of. Although she was much younger than he was he had an affection for Dixie that slowly developed into love; a love he could no longer hold back. When Dixie was fifteen, she and Asher finally listened to their hearts and become romantically involved. They had plans for their future together until Asher found some letters that revealed a secret so powerful and twisted that he did what he thought was best for all; he crushed Dixie's heart by leaving her with no explanation. Asher left town to pursue his football scholarship in Florida. After being away for three years, Asher returns only to find out that Dixie is now engaged to his younger brother Steel thus causing Asher to reveal the secret he has been holding for three years.
I really enjoyed this book but then again I am a bit biased because Abbi Glines is one of my favorite authors. This was an easy read and I read it in one sitting. This is one of those stories that shows what could happen when secrets are kept in order to protect those that you love. Instead, those very secrets could tear apart love and relationships. As the oldest of the Sutton boys Asher always felt a sense of responsibility to look after his brothers, mother and the ones he love. He put everyone else's happiness above his even if it meant loosing the girl he has always loved. In the end, however, the heart wants what it wants and we can't control who we fall in love with especially when one comes close to loosing that love forever.
I want more and I hope Abbi Glines gives us the rest of the Sutton boys stories. I also want to know more about Scarlet and what happens with her. Is her love with one of the Sutton boys real or was it just a fling? Scarlet reminds me a bit of Bethy from the Rosemary Beach series. There was so much more to Bethy's story and I feel the same about Scarlet. I can't wait for the next Sutton boys book. Hopefully we will not wait too long. In the meanwhile, I am looking forward to the next book release in the Rosemary Beach meets Sea Breeze Series which will be out July 11th. ( )
