"As a 911 dispatcher, Dana Newell takes pride in being calm in tough circumstances. In addition to her emotionally-charged career, she's faced enough emergencies in her own life. She recently escaped her abusive fiancé to move to tranquil Rock Harbor where she hopes life will be more peaceful. But the idyllic town hides more danger and secrets than it first appeared. Dana is continually drawn to her new friend Boone, who has scars inside and out. Then she answers a call at her job only to hear a friend's desperate screams on the other end. To preface, I won this book in a giveaway, and this book is the only one in the series that I’ve read. That being said, Coble does an astounding job of making it possible to jump right into the series by providing just enough background information to catch new people up, but didn’t seem to drone on in a way that would be frustrating to people who read the other books. While I enjoyed the her writing style and thought the plot was interesting, there were parts of the story I did find to be frustrating. As someone who works in the same career as the main character, I found the scenes when she was working and on a 911 call to be infuriating and I actually cringed at the fact it perpetuated the myth that we instantly know where people are when they call. To 99% of readers this wouldn’t even be anything they noticed, but I found it difficult to ignore.

I’d say the ending and reveal of ‘who did it’ was fairly predictable, and the victims/characters were all to closely connected for the murderer to go unnoticed as long as he did, but the story remained interesting enough read through.

As someone who isn’t Christian, I didn’t mind that religion wasn’t the focus of the book, but I think those who pick it up due to it being described as ‘Christian fiction’ might be disappointed. There is some mention of God and praying throughout, but there are also about 3 chapters in the middle of the book that seem incredibly out of place because of how religious the focus is compared to the rest of the book.

My rating for this book is closer to 3.5. ( )

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Once again we are reunited with the wonderful people of Rock Harbor. This time, Bree's old friend Dana has moved back home to Rock Harbor to escape her abusive husband. The entire town rallies to protect her. But when her friend Allyson, an investigative reporter, is murdered. She begins to wonder if Allyson got too close to the truth. With the help of her new friend Boone, she uncovers crazy dark family secrets.

This book took me completely by surprise. I thought it would be a simple romance with a predictable mystery. Do not be misled! This is a Christian novel with an intense mystery that will make your head spin. If you love mysteries, this book is for you. ( )

I was so excited to be able to read another Rock Harbor novel. I enjoy reading about characters that I have come to know. Colleen Coble is one of the best at intertwining romance and action. I love murder mysteries and Christian thrillers, but romance novels are a bore. NOT "Beneath Copper Falls." With enough action and mystery and a couple of surprises, this book was hardly boring!

Renee, running for her life from her fiancé, is found dead and no one knows the truth. There has been another murder, and Renee's cousin, Allison, is suspicious. The death appears to be an M.O. No one has met the fiancé of either girl, and there are no pictures of this man.

While Renee's brother is still in turmoil over the death of his sister, Dana, running from a very abusive man, enters his life. Boone and Dana are now on a course for which each feel will shipwreck. Dana's life is in danger and there is yet another murder. Someone well loved. Is it Dana's estranged fiancé that followed her and continues to threaten her very life?

What I love best about Colleen Coble's books is how well she writes romantic suspense!
Boone was my favorite part of Beneath Copper Falls. Well him and the dogs! I loved his character. Dana, while a strong heroine could be a bit blind but I really enjoyed the way her relationship with Boone developed.
I may have figured out who the 'Groom Reaper' was early on but that didn't take away the enjoyment I gleamed from the book. While it was obvious - to me at least - his motive wasn't.

This was the first Rock Harbor book I've read but I will definitely be catching up/continuing with the series!
