I listened to the audiobook, narrated very well by Nicole Poole. She always does a great job with this diverse cast of characters.
Most of this book is a wonderful, heart warming, gathering of all our favorite characters, friends, couples, and their children from the Mageri series, gathered for the Christmas holidays. Five stars for all of story relating to that.
What I could not let go no matter how I tried was that Silver and Logan were trying to get a child through the black market because they couldn't adopt through regular channels. I cannot believe that the author could not have had one of her characters come up with a better solution than to become a buyer of a child, thus fueling a practice they should be investigated and stopped. I truly did not want to finish the book at this point and kept hoping this wasn't happening, but it did. On that basis alone I wanted to give this book a one out of five stars, but every other aspect is quite good.
So if you can stomach the buying and selling of children then enjoy, otherwise I recommend skipping this short story.
Another heads up Goodreads says this is book 5.5 but I quickly realized that 'Risk' (which is labeled book 6) should actually be read first.
