One can sense that this is the beginning of the end for the Dr. Alan Gregory series. ( ) I registered a book at BookCrossing.com! http://www.BookCrossing.com/journal/12549012 A psychological thriller featuring yet another brilliant crazed killer. This one escapes from a mental hospital, where he had been placed instead of prison, and goes after the psychologist who was instrumental in his capture. That psychologist is Alan Gregory. This story follows another I have not read but I don't think you need to read the previous books to get into this one. I'm a little tired of the genius murderer who goes after specific targets for revenge or whatever reason from their past, and will even wait years to do it. I don't think this sort of thing happens much in real life. But it's a type of book, a formula, that can keep us reading. The book did the job of keeping me entertained on a long drive. I had not realized it was abridged when I bought it. Normally I prefer unabridged versions. But it seemed that the cutting didn't hurt it too much, at least for an audio book. I listened to this novel in an abridged version and it really underlined why I don't knowingly read abridged books. I felt that at many junctures the story was choppy and I felt myself longing for the parts that were edited out. Baring that it was an interesting story but nowhere near the author's Kill Me. Apparently this is the sequel to another book White wrote with Dr. Alan Gregory in it, but I followed it very well despite having not read the first book. In fact many sections are devoted to filling in parts of the backstory--which might almost be annoying to those already familiar with it. Dr. Gregory is experiencing problems with marriage, but those problems have to take a backseat to bigger concerns when a former patient of Dr. Gregory--who almost killed him and his family--is found to have escaped. Now Dr. Gregory is in pure survival mode as he tries to stay one step ahead of this killer bent on revenge--and who has had a lot of time to come up with an elaborate plot to obtain it. The suspense in this book is great as the reader follows the twists and turns of frightening events imposed on Dr. Gregory by his former patient. I definitely recommend this to fans of thrillers. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
