After graduation, Kieran expected to go straight into a career of flipping burgers-only to be offered the internship of his dreams at a political campaign. But the pressure of being an out trans man in the workplace quickly sucks the joy out of things, as does Seth, the humorless campaign strategist who watches his every move. Soon, the only upside to the job is that Seth has a painful crush on their painfully straight boss, and Kieran has a front row seat to the drama. But when Seth proves to be as respectful and supportive as he is prickly, Kieran develops an awkward crush of his own-one which Seth is far too prim and proper to ever reciprocate.… (más)

There's a surprising amount of detail and nuance in this short story. I don't often enjoy short stories, but Coffee Boy's an exception. I laughed out loud a lot because Kieran can't keep his mouth shut on whatever's running through his head, and it is hilarious.

Those two points alone mean you should read this one, but there's also that trans Kieran and bi Seth are fine with themselves. Loved that. More, please! ( )

Huh.

I thought this was an coffeeshop romance. And for some reason with bubbly personalities.

The only one with an somewhat bubbly personality was a minor character and I kinda hated him...

So unexpected but in a very good way. I do love me some snark :D

This was a cute, short novella with an office romance between an older, broody supervisor and his younger, very open and honest employee. I loved Kieran and his no filter mouth, his struggle with choosing to be open about himself but also not inconveniencing others, his total honesty about his feelings. Seth may look grumpy and cold, but underneath he is just a loner who doesn’t know how to express himself. I think they were perfect for each other. I also loved the setting of this story at a political campaign office. That gave the story a very refreshing feel. I just wish the story was longer and characters more fleshed out. ( )

Well that was f'ing adorable. Just to be clear, frenemies to lovers and actual nice person meets actual nice person and they fall stupidly, adorably in love are two of my favorites so I'm hugely biased. The story has excellent flow, the characters are legitimately likable and I was rooting for them the whole way. Recommended if you need a light pick me up romance.

Also, very important, I need one teeny, tiny scene of these two adorable idiots in the office together, post Coffee Boy. ( )

It's extremely important for media to represent all gender and sexual identities. This book just do that with a confident and sex-positive, transgender gay man. I love it even more because this isn't a sob story but a feel good one. The story is cute and writing is neat, what more can you ask for? ( )
