My biggest challenge with romance novels is how much "getting to know you" time is sacrificed in the name of a plot that doesn't drag. I totally understand, but it still irritates me a bit. The idea that the protagonists in this story had a previous history really works for me because presumably they've already done that bit and just need to catch up. I also love how the BDSM aspects are really a key element in how they face their personal challenges together, not just a fun bit on the side. I thought this was really thoughtfully written and did a good job of describing the challenges of an wartime amputee without dragging down the story. ( )
